Cambridge East (comprising land in and adjacent to Cambridge Airport)

Overview

Since 2016, Quod has provided strategic planning advice to Marshall Group, owners and operators of Cambridge Airport, on the future of its 300-hectare site – one of the most strategically important development opportunities in Cambridge. The vision is to create a new urban quarter for the city, delivering in excess of 8,000 homes, 9,000 jobs, and the full range of supporting infrastructure and community facilities, supported by a new train station.

Details

Quod provided planning and socio-economic advice to Marshall Group to support the strategic promotion of Cambridge East through the emerging Greater Cambridge Local Plan.

Quod's Role

Quod is leading planning discussions on proposals for the new urban quarter, widely described as “the most exciting development opportunity in Europe”. Quod has coordinated the preparation and submission of representations to the emerging Greater Cambridge Local Plan, alongside ongoing engagement with key figures within the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service and the Cambridge Growth Group to support the site’s progression towards allocation.

Quod is also advising Marshall on optimising development across the existing site and promoting the allocation of additional land through the Local Plan process. The expansion land, which will require release from the Green Belt, can help to achieve the scale necessary for truly transformative growth, would offer much needed critical mass for transformative growth, connected green infrastructure and sustainable transport connections.
